I had never reviewed an EP or Album review in two parts before, however, when I wrote the EP part 1 review I thought it was the real EP. Thanks to Spotify (and I’m sure Apple Music and other streaming sites do the same) marking it as an EP. But no, that’s the streaming service’s badge. Anyway Kindelan’s entire EP, ‘You Can Reach Me If You Try’, is now finished. Surprisingly it’s now badged as an album on Spotify! You can click here to read my EP Part 1 review and see what I had to say about “Listen”, “The Other Side”, “Hazel Frustration” and “Feast”. In the meantime let me give you my take on the remaining three songs that complete the EP. First off, it’s “Far Too Sweet” which is a beautifully harmonized track where Laura’s vocals are nearly perfect and the string arrangement adds something really special. There’s a great jazz vibe underlying the girl group harmonies at times. Furthermore, it is the shortest song on the EP, “She”. A song that is colder in its delivery than it is cold. I hear it as an attack on misogyny through an iron fist in lace gloves. It has the kind of lyrics that a much more established, experienced songwriter would slay. This is currently probably my favorite Kindelan track. The EP closes with “Can’t Sleep” which slowly builds into a beautiful story in a song. It feels like a pretty personal lyric, as a lot of people on the EP do. The play is very simple and Kindelan proves that there is no fear in using silence. This is a very classy release and to me shows very clearly that Kindelan is going to get better and better.
There are still some Kindelan live dates to come (Hull, Leeds, London and York), I’ll be at the EP launch show at Brudenell in Leeds on Friday 2nd June, will I see you there? I had the pleasure of interviewing Laura Kindelan recently, stay tuned for that, it will be posted here soon!
