As soon as I spend anytime outside in the winter, I get dry lips. Even if I am slapping lip balm on religiously, I still end up with a few dry spots or chapping. No fun. This simple brown sugar lip scrub can help remove dead skin and moisturize your lips. And, you might have all the ingredients in your kitchen right now!
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB
HOW DO YOU MAKE BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB?
Making this lip scrub is SO easy, and since you only use a small amount of scrub at a time, you can make only a small batch for yourself or a larger batch to share!
To make a batch of this lip scrub, combine equal parts honey, melted coconut oil and brown sugar in a small bowl. Begin by mixing the ingredients together as well as you can. The coconut oil won’t want to play nicely with the other ingredients, but that’s okay. Place the bowl in the fridge for a few minutes to help the oil solidify a bit.
Take the bowl out of the fridge and keep mixing with a fork. You can see that the oil is solidifying and turning white.
You can stop mixing when the scrub looks like this. It should have the same consistency as when you cream butter and sugar for cookie dough.
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB RECIPE
The best part of this lip scrub is that it works just as well as an expensive lip exfoliator with ingredients you might already have on hand. While similar recipes use jojoba oil or shea butter, this lip scrub uses good old coconut oil as a moisturizer!
BROWN SUGAR LIP SCRUB
- 1 part honey
- 1 part coconut oil melted
- 1 part light or dark brown sugar
Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl.
Place the mixture in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes.
Continue mixing the ingredients with a fork until the mixture resembles creamed butter and sugar.
Store the finished lip scrub in an air tight container in a cool, dry place.
HOW DO YOU STORE HOMEMADE LIP SCRUB?
You want to store the lip scrub in a small jar with a secure lid. If the temperature gets above 76 degrees, the oil will start to melt and it can get messy. You can buy small glass containers online or you can thoroughly clean an old make-up jar.
If you are giving this lip scrub as a gift, I suggest adding a label to the jar to identify it. It’s also nice to type up some quick directions on how to use the lip scrub.
HOW DO YOU USE LIP SCRUB?
To use, take a very small amount of the scrub out of the container with the tip of a cotton swab or your fingertips. Place the scrub on your lips and rub it in a circular motion all over your lips. You can rub it with your fingertip or the corner of a washcloth. Your body heat will cause the oil to melt into your skin as the brown sugar exfoliates any dead skin cells. Rinse the scrub off (don’t wipe super hard or you will wipe off the oil!) and enjoy your soft smooth kisser!
